Green Hydra, Class/30
For 30 students.
Hydra are tiny animals closely related to jellyfish. They can be carnivorous as well as photosyntheic due to their symbiotic relationship with green algae Zoochlorellae.
- Watch the feeding reflex in real-time
- Observe the reproductive process of budding
- Green hydra are smaller than the strictly carnivorous, Brown Hydra (also available)
Hydra have a sack-shaped body with a ring of tentacles around the mouth at the top. They use those tentacles, covered with paralyzing nematocysts, to trap small crustaceans, stun them and bring them into the mouth where they are digested.
