This murder mystery provides inquiry based learning with an intriguing twist. Students apply many CSI techniques including fingerprinting (dusting with carbon powder, dusting with aluminum powder, cyanoacrylate, iodine fuming, and ninhydrin), hair analysis, and identifying drugs, poisons and other chemicals.
National Standards for Grade Levels 7-12
Using microscopes, measurement, chemical analysis, observation, and deductive reasoning, students examine the clues necessary to solve the murder of Mr. Paul Dudden. Includes Searching for Clues Forensics Manual, Murder Mystery flash drive, Analysis of Hair Identification Unit, Analysis of Fingerprinting Unit, and Analyzing Drugs and Poisons Unit.
Allow 6-8 hours to complete the labs and crime scene analysis. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four.
Required, but not included: microscope, UV light, beakers, three test tubes with corks or stoppers, large jar, nails, scissors, distilled water, newspaper, pencils, and scrap paper.
