Human Karyotype Kit

Human chromosomes are analyzed through the process of karyotyping. Cells arrested in metaphase are microscopically photographed. The photos are enlarged to a workable size and a metaphase plate is formed. A karyotpe is constructed by cutting out the photographed chromosomes and arranging them in a particular order for study. The kit enables students to see the difference in human chromosomes, especially some of the chromosomal abnormalities which may occur in the human population. Sufficient materials are included to serve six students working singly or six small groups of students. The investigation will occupy one to two class periods.
