Simulated Urinalysis Lab Activity

In this investigation, students will learn the basics of urinalysis and how it is used to diagnose medical disorders like diabetes, hematuria, and others. Students attempt to diagnose various medical disorders using four simulated urine samples. They run a series of seven tests and analyze factors including color, clarity, pH, glucose, and even the presence of simulated red and white blood cells on each sample. They prepare a microscope slide to check for crystals and compare it to an included reference microscope slide. Activity contains materials for 30 students working in teams of three.
